Lenten Campaign 2021

Live Hope in Self, Family & Community

Director’s Message

HOPE Will Sustain Us

lent2021 LOGO ENGLISH transparent 01In the midst of these unprecedented and severe social and economic realities brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, we begin Lenten Campaign 2021 with the theme Live Hope in Self, Family & Community

Never has the world been in greater need of HOPE, as it does now. Hope is the virtue which will see us through these unpredictable and uncertain times.

If there is one lesson Covid-19 has taught us, it is that we are all in this together, and only by working together will we see this through. “So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) Together, we will live, learn and love through these times, growing in faith, enveloped in charity, and trusting in HOPE.

The Archdiocesan Office for Human Development is committed to reach out to the marginalised, vulnerable and voiceless sectors of society, among whom are the urban poor, Orang Asli, and the migrants.

We place our hope firmly in God to guide our plans and outreach programmes to help create a better future to those who need it the most.

In this new-normal Season of Lent, may our fasting, prayers, and almsgiving enable our conversion and renewal to become better channels of God’s love and compassion to the communities in need.

God bless you all. Stay safe!

Reaching out as a Family - Preparing Sustainable Meals

“For I was hungry and you gave me food …” (Matthew 25:35). During Lent, we are asked to focus more intently on "almsgiving”. As one of the three pillars of Lenten practice, almsgiving is a "witness to fraternal charity" and a "work of justice pleasing to God." (CCC 2462).

Watch the video premiere on 28 Feb, Sunday 8pm at https://Tv.ArchKL.org with Fr Edwin Peter and Pat’s family preparing a simple, sustainable meal and reflect on how we can bring Hope into our families and to those in need in our community.

Safeguarding Creation: Advocating Conservation

We are not faced with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather one complex crisis which is both social and environmental. Strategies for a solution demand an integrated approach to combating poverty, restoring dignity to the excluded, and at the same time protecting nature (Laudato Si, 139).

Join our discussion on 7 March, Sunday 8pm at https://Tv.ArchKL.org with Christine Das, a wildlife advocate artist, who will candidly speak about her work in protecting wildlife and on how she uses Art to bring the awareness to society. We invite teens, youths and adults to dialogue and explore ways to safeguard Nature.

Movie Reflection - Connecting Experiences

Movies can open us up to the riches of God’s grace. Good films engage us deeply at an affective level, and reflecting on that affective response can be a rich source of spiritual insight and growth. You are encouraged to watch the 10 selected movies (which portray situations of Hope) listed in https://lent.aohd.org via Netflix, YouTube, FORMED or other platforms to connect your experiences with these movies. When watching, pay attention to the affective movements you experience in yourself, and detect which movements are of the Holy Spirit.

Join our movie reflection on 21 March, Sunday 8pm moderated by Justin Victor, Senior Lecturer, School of Media and Communication, Taylor’s University. We will discuss and reflect on the movie “Lunchbox” (2013, India).
