What is Lent
The Lenten Campaign is aimed at encouraging the faithful to be fully engaged in the three key Christian practices of prayer (Mt. 6:6), fasting
(Mt. 6:17) and almsgiving (Mt. 6:2).
The desired outcome of these triple Lenten practices are conversion, renewal, and transformation of the individual, family, and community.
Mission
A Catholic community that actively cooperates to build the Kingdom of God
Vision
To promote the active and consciencious observance of Lent
In the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, the Lenten Campaign programme, which is founded on Catholic Social Teachings, is conducted and organised by the Office for Human Development (AOHD).
Lenten Campaign History
The Lenten Campaign launched by the late Cardinal Soter in 1981 was originally to coerced churches in Malaysia into actively caring for the poor and for the promotion of justice and peace.
Today it is aimed at encouraging the faithful to be meaningfully and fruitfully engaged in the three key Christian practices of prayer (Mt. 6:6), fasting (Mt. 6:17) and almsgiving (Mt. 6:2).
The desired outcome of these triple Lenten practices is conversion, renewal and transformation of the individual, family and community.
Theme 2025
'Pilgrims of Hope'
The theme for Lenten Campaign 2025 in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur is ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, following the theme of the Jubilee Year 2025 announced by our Holy Father, Pope Francis.
We are invited to journey in this season of Lent “with deep faith, lively hope and active charity”.

Why is the Lenten Campaign Expenditure Pie Chart from July this year to June of the following year instead of January to December of the same year?
Lent is normally during the month of March/ April. However, we do still receive funds after the Lenten Campaign period as parishes need time to consolidate the funds and send it to AOHD. This process can take up to the month of September. By changing the internal financial year and our pie chart, we are able to provide a better reflection of the funds received and spend. All funds received for year 2023 has been spent within the duration of July 2023 to June 2024
